This is a covered bowl made by using the segmented construction and
then turned on a wood lathe. It is made up of 113 pieces of Oak (Canada),
Maple (USA), Purpleheart (Brazil), Padauk (Africa) and Walnut (USA). After it
was turned it was sanded very smooth and then finished with five handrubbed
coats of clear gloss water based urethane.
This next covered bowl is also made using the segmented glue up method. It has
224 pieces (115 in the body and 109 in the lid) of Purpleheart (Brazil), Maple (USA),
Ebony (Africa) and Walnut (USA). After all the segments were cut and glued in place,
they were turned on a wood lathe and then sanded smooth. It was then finished with
five coats of a water based clear gloss urethane for a high shine.
This was made for my wife, Betty, for Christmas 2005.
